Position Summary:

The Shift Manager is responsible for the day to day management of inbound production functions, during a specified shift, at a retail ecommerce fulfillment center, as well as operational performance metrics and customer service deliverables.  The Inbound Manager drives productivity through management of their functional area’s team, made up of multiple supervisors and numerous hourly associates.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Manage the performance of multiple fulfillment center production functions, including receiving, preparing merchandise, inbound put-away, and warehousing goods
    • Ensure minimum receiving backlog is maintained at all times; proactively plan for and respond to seasonal shifts in receipt flow in partnership with the wave planning department
    • Manage a highly efficient Value-Added Services team to inspect and audit inbound goods, and further prepare them for warehousing, according to vendor management guidelines
    • Drive accountability in the put-away process to ensure goods are warehoused accurately according to slotting guidelines; minimize negative inventory impact due to location capacity constraints
  • Manage implementation of policies/procedures designed to maintain a safe and secure environment, with an emphasis on quality control, safe practices, strict delivery goals, and customer service.
  • Interpret direction from the Production/Wave planning department to manage the execution of the production strategy within assigned shift and area of responsibility
  • Partner with the corresponding Outbound Manager to ensure a smooth flow of merchandise through the fulfillment production workstream,
  • Set daily/shift-specific goals that reflect the overall objectives and SLAs committed to by the greater fulfillment team
  • In partnership with the training and development team; evaluate and assess hourly workers abilities, performance, and assignments.  Recommend reallocation and retraining as necessary.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for members of the support services team; work in partnership to manage execution of support-related tasks (training, safety awareness, production planning) for the manager’s shift/area of responsibility
  • Oversee and support a team of production supervisors tasked with executing specific production functions; encourage and collect feedback designed to lead to process analysis and improvement; strive for peak operational efficiency within area of responsibility.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Facilitates effective and timely communication and collaboration within all levels of the fulfillment center production team, as well as various other internal fulfillment support partners to ensure coordination of efforts and the highest level of customer service consistent with building goals.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Management and other key staff within Distribution and fulfillment centers and the greater Belk supply chain department
  • Representatives from contracted business partners (Trucking Company, Security, Temporary Staffing, etc)

 Accountability

  • Scope of responsibility: Distribution Center
  • Direct Report Titles: Production Supervisors (each managing a team of hourly associates)
  • Approximate number of FTE- Full Time Equivalent direct reports (30 standard hours or more per week): 6-10

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • 2 or more years of applicable experience - Specific work or project experience: 2 or more years in one or more of merchandise fulfillment, cross-dock, retail management and/or supply chain experience as an operator with a career path showing increasing responsibility, including managing multiple direct reports
  • Effective time management in order to meet dynamic goals and deadlines
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication abilities
  • Enthusiastic team leader; efficient delegator that takes a collaborative approach
