Position Summary:

The Safety Manager is responsible for driving the Fulfillment Center safety culture, partnership with site operations and execution of company safety policies along with compliance to all applicable local, regional, state and federal regulations. This role leads a team of Safety Specialists/EMTs that support the operation and FC associates. The Safety Manager will instruct and train Leaders on safety policies and assist them in integrating our safety standards at the site. The individual will work to identify best practices and incorporate standards to continuously improve the safety culture. The Safety Manager will possess excellent safety program knowledge and influence the site by working with Operations on a consistent basis.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:


  • Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional/state, federal regulations and company policy.

  • Provide guidance, oversight and compliance to Safety Policies.

  • Measure sites’ performance compared to safety expectations. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.

  • Analyze safety metrics and review incidents.  Utilize trends to reduce safety risk.

  • Perform safety audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.

  • Audit record-keeping practices aligned with safety standards and local regulations.

  • Audit 5S organization and Associate behaviors to ensure that training, auditing and results are accurate and consistent.

  • Ensure open communication on Safety topics with all levels in the organization

             Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each                 

  • Audit the quality, delivery and effectiveness of all required safety training.

Education, Training, and/or Certifications: 

Minimum Required:

§  Bachelors degree and/or equivalent years of experience



§  Bachelors degree and/or equivalent years of experience

§  Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, ergonomics or a related field require

§  Certified Safety Professional preferred

§  EMT or paramedic program meeting DOT guidelines


Minimum Required:

§  5+ years of growing responsibilities in safety and risk management/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.

§  Experience implementing process improvement and safety policies in an operational environment.

§  Experience leading multiple direct reports.

§  Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of pivot tables and the development of charts and graphics.

§  Excellent written and verbal communication skills


§  Manufacturing, Distribution or Warehouse Safety experience with exempt and non-exempt employees

§  Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies based on data and risk analysis

§  Working knowledge and experience with Six Sigma tools, 5S, ISO and/or behavioral based safety strategies are a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Required:


  • Knowledge of loss control strategies related worker’s compensation.
  • Excellent communication & training skills required in order to appropriately communicate with individuals of differing knowledge levels (e.g. associates, management, vendors, attorneys, etc.).  Ability to multi task, prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines and multiple requests desired.
  • Ability to understand and communicate state and federal safety and health regulations
  • Strong analytical skills needed with demonstrated ability to interrupt data trends and develop the necessary action plans.
  • Strong organizational skills along with managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of overall distribution operations, to include policies and procedures, use and availability of manuals and guides, employee position descriptions, training and development programs.
  • Ability to effectively present to, and train both small and large groups.
  • Able to travel if needed
