Position Summary:

The Belk Fulfillment Human Resources Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of all human resource activities.  The Human Resources Manager works closely with Director of Distribution, Director of Operations Support, Temporary Staffing on Site Manager, Operations Managers of Distribution, and Manager of Loss prevention to maximize the return on the human resources investment. The Human Resources Manager ensures quality of the workforce, recruiting, training development, performance management, employment practice, compliance with all employment applicable laws, proper payroll administration, benefit management, workplace initiatives and employee relations.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Employment & Staffing

·        Manage the hiring process to ensure compliance with all applicable law and policy

·        Direct the recruitment of qualified candidates through various media and recommend final candidates for job offerings with start pay proposals

·        Ensure that temporary staffing agency is providing quality and qualified staffing

·        Ensure that associates are placed and/or transferred to positions that match and utilize their capabilities

·        Ensure adequate staffing is maintained, especially for Peak Season activities

Compensation & Benefits

·        Ensure that all associates are informed of policies and procedures

·        Communicate to all associates the company benefits available to them including eligibility requirements

·        Periodically organize, coordinate and review the pay plan at the Fulfillment Center

·        Ensure proper administration of benefits including worker’s compensation 

Performance Management

·        Drive the review process for consistency, fairness and timeliness

·        Coach and provide input to management for quality, timely and consistent reviews

·        Ensure proper payroll administration and effective wage management with Facility Director

Training, Development, & Employee Relations

·        Ensure that associates receive basic orientation and execute on-going training to develop skills for future job assignments

·        Ensure that the Belk Associate Engagement Survey is conducted when requested (preferably every 12-18 months)

·        Proactively maintain a positive associate relations environment and support the Open Door Policy

·        Handle associate issues and facilitate facility resolutions that are fair and consistent

·        Conduct investigations and partner with facility and corporate leadership to find resolutions

·        Ensue that corrective interviews are conducted when needed and documentation is placed in the associate’s personnel file. Terminate employment of any associate for a dismissible offense when documented corrective procedures have been followed and performance does not improve

·        Ensure that information is communicated to all associates in regard to changes in policies, procedures, benefits, and other information that may enhance job performance

·        Assess training needs for management, develop and/or schedule necessary training

·        Develop incentive opportunities for associates (picnics, Carowinds, Christmas meal, etc.)


Education & Experience

·        4 - year College Degree

·        Human Resources Generalist or Related Experience (3-5 years)

·        2-4 Years Management Experience

·        Familiar with Standard PC and Business Software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PeopleSoft, Reflexus Timekeeping systems, etc.)

·        PHR/SPHR highly preferred
