Position Summary:

The Public Relations Specialist will be responsible for creating and maintaining a favorable public image for Belk by communicating programs and accomplishments while managing through potential media issues and/or crises. Under the leadership of the Public Relations Manager, this position will create, manages and implement public relations campaigns with the goal of enriching Belk’s position within the public eye.  Maintains strong relationships with media reps.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in writing and managing the distribution of press releases (and other external communications)
  • Develops social media content
  • Proactively pitch media
  • Assist in issues management and crisis response
  • Assist in internal communications and event management (both internal and external)
  • Partner with managing PR agencies or other external agencies, as appropriate

·        Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills

·        Have a good understanding of media needs and media relationships

·        Experience managing/working with external public relations agencies

·        Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail

·        Solid understanding of primary social media platforms, as well as emerging trends in social media

·        Must possess a creative, collaborative, and strategic mindset

·        Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management


Minimum Education & Experience:

·        Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  •   2-3 years’ experience preferred


Preferred Education & Experience:

  •   Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism/communications/public relations
  •   Preferred 3-5 years’ experience
