Position Summary

The role of the Financial Analyst is to provide accurate, timely and insightful financial and operational analysis, to identify and communicate expense savings opportunities, and to identify and implement process improvement opportunities both within the Financial Planning Department and throughout the organization.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities:

  • Become a subject matter expert for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Develop and maintain expense forecasting models / reports for areas of responsibility
  • Partner with business partners to understand current state of business & upcoming risks and opportunities
  • Develop actionable reporting that will be used to drive expense management decision making / EBITDA improvement
  • Act as lead budget analyst for areas of responsibility, includes developing master budget models that are flexible enough to react to trend changes and simplify a very complex expense structure
  • Develop budget, forecast, scenario planning reporting for inclusion in executive level presentations
  • Build appropriate pro forma models to support strategic planning initiatives
  • Identify, quantify, and assist in implementing expense savings ideas
  • Perform ad hoc analysis on all areas of the business as requested by the Manager of FP&A, Director of FP&A, VP of Finance and CFO
  • Identify process improvements within the Financial Planning Department, including but not limited to report reduction, process automation, improved use of technology, improved communication and data hand-off, and documentation of key assumptions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other Finance Department associates and management
  • Develop and maintain relationships with departmental and divisional management and expense budget owners

Management Practices & Business Applications:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Powerpoint); looking for someone with Database Mgmt / Access experience
  • Store Payroll familiarity a huge plus
  • Ability to use query tools and databases (Hyperion Essbase a plus)
  • Ability to design and implement process improvements.


External Relationships:

  • Limited, potentially working with competitors/analysts in benchmarking financial/operational metrics.

  • Store Leadership Team (CSO, DOS, RVP, SM)

  • Financial Planning & Analysis Team including Chief Financial Officer

Position Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Four Year Degree, Finance or Business, MBA preferred
  • 1-3 years Financial Analysis experience with a proven track record of increasing responsibility, preferably within FP&A (retail a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to create complex financial models
