Position Summary:

The Architect oversees the direction, guidance, and definition of architecture to effectively support the business. Plays a role in establishing architectural vision and direction, develops systems and business architectures, provides advice and guidance, monitors emerging technologies, and ensures all systems are aligned with Store Systems architecture. Develops architecture blueprints, roadmaps, and financial cost models and fiscal year budgeting.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Sets architectural vision and direction, collaborates and leads the development of short and long term architecture strategic planning.
  • Aligns technology, business, data, and application architectures in support of the business strategy.
  • Identifies optimization opportunities addressing cost, reuse, and simplification of the Store Systems application and technology landscape.
  • Establishes and maintains views of the Store Systems landscape including relationship, health, cost, and capability.
  • Establishes and follows enterprise standards and governance.
  • Provides input into strategic planning opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains Store Systems roadmaps that align business, data application, and technology, with input from applicable domains.
  • Provides overall direction and guidance of Store Systems architecture to effectively support business strategy.
  • Ensures technology roadmaps align with the enterprise architecture.
  • Leads the authoring, development, and evolution of industry technology standards by documenting and participating in standards bodies.
  • Fosters the development of reusable platforms, technologies, and services across business units.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in technology strategy and Store Systems architecture, providing technical guidance and identifying business benefits of alternate strategies.
  • Provides guidance and expertise on the establishment of roadmaps and principles.
  • Interfaces across business areas and acts as a visionary to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects.
  • Performs due diligence during potential merger and acquisition activities.
  • Acts as “communications therapist”, utilizing soft skills to build relationships between groups.
  • Builds effective relationships between IT, business users, and internal/external service providers.
  • Effectively communicate and share the architectural vision and roadmaps to all levels across the IT and related business units
  • Works with technology vendors to ensure that the appropriate technology direction is set with respect to applications, infrastructure, information, and security.
  • Monitors developments in the technology industry to take appropriate architectural initiatives.
  • Identifies requirements and sponsor initiatives to develop new services, components, standards, assets and frameworks required to support business strategy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education

  • 12+ years of experience

  • 3-5 years of demonstrable experience as an architect

  • Experience in full development life cycle and significant experience in delivering applications and architecture services in a production environment

  • Experience in the implementation of structured design and architecture processes in a corporate environment.

  • Experience in at least three of the following areas: business architecture, application architecture, data architecture, technical/ infrastructure architecture, security architecture

  • Retail domain is required

  • Experience required in Store applications like Point of Sale or Store Inventory Management

  • Experience with payment applications, systems and devices is required

  • Experience with J2EE application stack with RDBMS desirable

  • Experience with mobile application stack is highly desirable

    Experience as a data architect highly desirable
  • Experience as an infrastructure architect is good to have
