Position Summary:
The Director of Information Delivery will lead the Data and Integration functions within the Belk Information Technology organization, reporting to the Vice President, Information Technology, Development, and Integrations. 

The role will partner with multiple business partners including Data Science, and Planning to influence the business and technology strategies for our long-term data strategy and vision for the company, whilst also being responsible for the operational Data Movement and Integration including project execution of Data Integration, Data Strategy and Modernization, and Modernization of our Integration Strategy.  The role will interact with key leaders in technology and in business divisions providing a consultative input to decisions on the Data ingestion and consumption methodology, investment decisions on Data initiatives, and design approaches for data architecture, platforms, and tools for data programs in the IT portfolio.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Determining the organizational structure for this newly consolidated function, and building a high performing team
  • Leading efforts to prioritize, establish, and execute Data Architecture Roadmaps that define a target architecture and translate business strategy into a strategic investment portfolio
  • Influencing vendors & partners on strategic roadmaps
  • Delivering data driven products and services across complex organizations, ensuring data is usable, reliable, governed, and cost effective
  • Championing complex data transformational efforts within Analytics and Big Data, Data Governance, and Data Management organizations including the intersection of data assets with the cloud strategy (DaaS, SaaS, and PaaS).
  • Accountable for the implementation of data platforms such as EDW, MDM, Data Lake (Hadoop conversion), and data appliance offload (Teradata).
  • Accountable for the implementation/support of the Data Movement, Refinement (Talend, Python) and reporting toolsets (Tableau, Microstrategy, custom applications)
  • Leading efforts to ensure projects align with strategic capabilities, target architectures, & technology standards
  • Working closely with the DevOps group to continuously improve the Data practices including Architecture Governance, Strategic Investment Planning, and operational execution of Data needs
  • Business Interaction – Builds partnerships with relevant business units.  Serve as the business partner’s advocate to all areas of IT.  Uses relationships to drive identified business change required to deliver project benefits.  Ensure project ROI hurdles are met.
  • Planning - Responsible for solicitation of business needs, utilizing Belk’s IT business model and tools to prioritize and plan tasks and the resources needed to accomplish those tasks, and the development of detailed project plans to assure activities are understood and commitment is gained to meet overall project objectives.  Strong familiarity and use of Agile development methodologies.
  • Budgeting and Control - Responsible for setting, tracking, and adhering to capital and expense project budgets.  Utilizes Belk’s IT Governance tools to develop and track project budgets.
  • Project Management – Overall responsibility for project activities and the associates assigned to them.   Assures all projects are initiated with appropriate scope and requirements.  Assures scope and requirements are monitored and controlled throughout the project.  Monitors and controls project delivery within determined budget and timeframes.  Identifies and mitigates or resolves project risks and issues.
  • Process Improvement Sponsor - Conforms to overall corporate methodology to ensure consistent approach to implementing and/or designing systems.  Is a champion for the use and continual improvement of corporate methodology and processes as executed through assigned projects.
  • Team Building – Directs project staff toward achieving defined project objectives through clear communication of expectations, implementation and enforcement of standards, policies, procedures, and methodology.  Provide consistent and clear feedback to team members on performance against goals and objectives.  Assesses individual contributions and provides feedback to the team member’s manager for performance appraisal purposes.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • 10+ years relevant Data experience - including evidence of leading architecture efforts, shaping business / technology strategies, and execution oversight of strategic investment portfolios 
  • Demonstrated experience defining Data architecture used in the Retail Services industry
  • Demonstrated experience of leading and managing large teams and operational Data processes 
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize workload, and building high performing teams
  • Strong communication and influencing skills - with demonstrated experience of actions put into place based on presentation to business & technology executives (COO, CIO, Business Leadership)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science or other relative Technical Degree
  • Experience developing project plans to meet business objectives
  • Experience developing and managing project budgets
  • Experience building and developing highly effective project teams
  • Experience improving and automating business processes through the application of technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
