Position Summary:

The role of the Advertising Planner is to:

Partner with merchandising GMMs and DMMs on the preparation and execution of Marketing.  Act as a key communication point and provide support for both the Marketing Creative and Merchandising teams.  Communicate strategic merchandise initiatives to inform the advanced planning of Marketing.  Assist in the development and execution of multi-channel marketing initiatives and the storewide promotional calendar.  Monitor and analyze marketing, customer data, and competition, identifying and quantifying risks and opportunities, and develop recommendations on how to optimize.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Manage information flow for event planning, previews, and post evaluations, as well as provide general Marketing support for Merchant and Creative marketing teams
  • Understand and communicate key merchandise initiatives to inform advanced planning of Marketing including Allocations/paginations, creative concepts, and other marketing materials
  • Manage Vendor marketing, including Interactive, Email, and Direct Mail.  Analyze performance and provide recommendations on how to optimize programs and utilize co-op. 
  • Strong knowledge of multiple Marketing channels to inform recommendations and communicate Marketing strategies to teams
  • Collaborate with merchants to strengthen impact of key business initiatives and ideas
  • Analyze area’s advanced planning marketing.  Identify and quantify risks and opportunities at a business level.  Competitive research to develop new ideas on how to drive key business initiative
  • Analyze area’s post mortem marketing.  Evaluate marketing changes at a business level and quantify impact on business.  Create recommendations for future marketing plans.

Minimum Education & Experience: (BA or BS (preferred)

  • 5+ years of retail experience preferred in Merchandising, Planning, or Marketing


Preferred Education & Experience: BA or BS , MBA a Plus

  • 5+ years of retail experience preferred in Merchandising, Planning, or Marketing



  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Thoroughness in execution of responsibilities with attention to detail
  • Ability to get things done.  Strong sense of initiative.  Self-motivated
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of MS office; EDW and MKW knowledge a plus


Physical: Ability to operate a PC, ability to travel to stores/markets/offsite facilities
