Position Summary:

The Transportation Manager  reports to the VP, Retail Distribution and is responsible for planning and managing all domestic freight and parcel spend, including operational and fiscal responsibility for these activities.  He / She will take a strategic leadership approach and will be accountable for creating plans to develop and integrate the capabilities of the organization in line with the current Logistics Mission.  The Transportation Manager ensures that internal and external customers receive the highest level of service, makes decisions that maximize supply chain performance and cost metrics, and builds strong associate work teams with a positive work environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage retail product movement from vendor origin to DCs and DC movement to stores; manage the parcel relationships and support the organization’s evolving Omnichannel mission.
  • Plan and direct all aspects of the company’s inbound, outbound and parcel transportation programs:
  • Develop, direct, and ensure the execution of the Company’s overall transportation operations, programs, and strategy, including planning and forecasting to support current requirements and future growth.
  • Developing and execute annual transportation budgets.
  • Ensure company and vendor compliance with all domestic transportation laws and regulations.
  • Oversee supplier management program to ensure service levels are consistently exceeded at the most effective costs.
  • Ensure tactical, in-season procurement to meet changing demand follows appropriate governance.
  • Perform periodic review of delivery network to maximize proper utilization and reduce transportation costs.
  • Provide leadership that maximizes and optimizes resources in support of the company’s goals and objectives:
  • Recruit, train, mentor and develop an engaged, diverse and world-class organization that will ensure the highest level of service, productivity, safety and quality.
  • Ensure direct reports clearly understand expectations and are focused, capable and accountable for executing the mission.
  • Manage direct reports including staffing, training, development, goal setting, performance assessment, disciplinary actions, providing support and ensuring execution of assignments.
  • Translate strategies into specific goals, tactics, action plans and deliverables for the team.
  • Evaluate and recommend new or revised relationship / compliance processes and procedures to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Facilitate a new level of information connectivity between suppliers, service providers, distribution and logistics, and create customer value through technology-driven transportation services.
  • Demonstrate support for the merchandising and stores organizations by fostering effective communication through transparency of strategies and processes, and promoting relationship building initiatives.
  • Develop expense and capital budgets, controls, and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements.  Ensure proper accounting treatment is attained and report status to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective and timely communication between the department and supply chain management, the network of distribution centers and various corporate departments to guarantee coordination of efforts.

  • 4 or more years of applicable experience
  • Specific work or project experience: of transportation and/or supply chain as an operator with a career path showing increasing responsibility in transportation, logistics and supply chain leadership to include managing an exempt staff

  • A champion on new initiatives with an ability to successfully work across different groups, and to execute by bridging functional and divisional silos.
  • Ability to Travel to Distribution/Fulfillment Centers as well as Corporate Office
