Belk’s Internship Program provides exposure to senior leaders, professional development workshops, structured assignments and social events over 10 weeks in the summer. No matter the area of business, every day is packed with real-world experience and exposure to roles within departments across our entire company. In addition to department work, interns tackle a group project with peers that will provide Belk with fresh ideas or new solutions. Interns will leave understanding the complexity of big box department stores and the excitement of the retail and ecommerce industry.
Belk offers opportunities to interns in traditional retail positions such as Store Management, Buying, Planning, eCommerce and Design. Corporate internship opportunities are available in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Communications and Information Technology. Outstanding interns will be invited to apply for the Retail Development Program and may receive offers before going back to school in the Fall.

The Retail Development Program (RDP) is a fast-paced three-month program designed to prepare recent college graduates for a full-time role at Belk. We offer opportunities in several of our business functions including Merchandising, Allocation & Planning, eCommerce and more! The program focuses on key components to support your development: Education, Experience, Exposure, Innovation and Results.
Through our hands-on learning approach, participants assume job responsibilities quickly while completing a robust learning curriculum that will enable them to master the critical skills needed for success. In addition to on-the-job learning, participants will engage with a variety of senior-leaders across the company, attend several fun and exciting social/networking events and learn from top talent in our businesses. Participants will visit our fulfillment center and partake in the “Store Experience Week” as a way to practice the Modern.Southern.Style. that Belk brings to life each day.
Throughout the program, Belk ensures that participants receive the guidance and support they need from their manager, mentor and a program alumni “buddy”. Upon successful completion of the program, participants assume full-time roles in their function. The learning philosophy of the program is based on a simple model: Understand the Why → Learn → Apply which occurs through the key program components below. Note that some program details vary by business function track.
The Retail Development Program Stores track is designed to prepare recent college graduates for a career in retail management. The program spans 8 months, where participants live and work in metro-areas. Participants work in a home training store, where they gain on-the-job experiences and exposure. They also rotate through other Belk stores in their metro-area. Participants are partnered with a coach, who guides and mentors them throughout the program.
In addition to their in-store training, participants attend learning events at Belk HQ, where they receive Belk operational and leadership training. Participants engage with leaders across the company, attend social and networking events, and learn directly from store leadership.
Upon successful completion of the program, RDPs are placed in a full-time Sales Team Manager role, where they will lead a team of Sales Associates and ensure every customer experiences the Modern, Southern, Style of Belk.
